Working with Tasks
Right-clicking a task opens a context-menu that displays the available functions; these depend on the type of task (whether it is a Workflow, a Schedule, a Job, etc.), of its status and of whether they are historical tasks (and therefore deactivated) or not.
This table provides an overview with short descriptions of all available functions. They are listed in alphabetical order to help you find them easily. In additions, links to the related topics in this help are provided.

Function | Description | See... |
---|---|---|---|
Activator Executions | Opens the list of historical data of the instances that trigger the execution of tasks. | Activator Executions | |
Apply modifications |
Available for workflows in the Workflow Monitor. If you want to change settings in a running workflow you must first stop its execution; for this purpose you right-click on the workflow and select Modify. Then you make your changes. To apply them you select this option. Applies your changes to the running workflow and sets it back to active. |
||
Cancel | Cancels the task. Child tasks are not canceled. | ||
Cancel (Recursive) |
Cancels the task and its child tasks. |
||
Child Executions | Opens the historical data of tasks which execution is triggered by another object | Child Executions | |
Comments |
Opens a dialog where you can enter additional information on the task. Tasks that contain comments display the comment icon in the RunID column. |
Entering Comments | |
Create Forecast | Forecasts calculate the expected execution times and the estimated runtime of executable objects and tasks. | Forecasts and Auto-Forecasts | |
Deactivate |
Removes an ended task from the list. One of the setting of the executable object definitions is what should happen with tasks after their execution, whether they should be deactivated or not. The following options are available:
See Automatic Deactivation Section for details on this. If, according to these settings, ended tasks are still active and therefore displayed on the list and you want to get rid of them, you can do so with this command. The only exception are tasks for which the Never option has been selected. The Deactivate function does not affect them. Deactivating workflows includes all its subordinate tasks. |
||
Deactivate (Forced) |
Available for tasks that are workflows. It deactivates the workflow and its child workflows (if any) even if they still contain active tasks. This option always overrules the Automatic Deactivation settings (see above) in the object definition, even if they have been set to Never deactivate tasks. A workflow's rollback function will fail for workflows that have already been deactivated via this option. |
||
Edit | Opens the object in the Process Assembly perspective and allows you to modify its definition, provided you have the necessary privileges. | Defining Objects | |
Edit in New Window | Opens the object in the Process Assembly perspective in a new browser window and allows you to modify its definition, provided you have the necessary privileges. | Defining Objects | |
Executions | Opens the list of executions (historical data) of the selected task | Executions | |
Filter | Limits the activity list according to specified filter criteria. | Filtering Tasks | |
Go Immediately |
Starts processing a task immediately. Tasks that have a Waiting status start as well. Child tasks are not affected. |
Executing Objects Overview | |
Go (Recursive) |
Starts processing a task immediately. This option is available for tasks with start type RECURSIVE that have a Waiting status. It also starts child tasks. |
Executing Objects Overview | |
Ignore Preconditions | This command continues a task when it is in a waiting status due to Preconditions that have been specified in the workflow properties. The actions/conditions are ignored and skipped. | Preconditions, Postconditions, Conditions | |
Ignore Queue Limit |
For tasks that are waiting to start because of missing queue slots (Waiting for Queue slot). It starts the task immediately. |
Queue Object (QUEUE) | |
Ignore Sync Conditions |
Sync objects contain definitions on status, conditions and actions that are combined to specify the order in which tasks will be executed. Tasks can be in a waiting status due to Sync definitions. This option ignores the conditions defined in the Sync object assigned to the task and starts it. |
Monitoring Sync Objects | |
Modify |
Available for workflows in the Workflow Monitor. If you want to change settings in a running workflow you must first stop its execution; for this purpose you right-click on the workflow and select this option. To apply your changes you must then select Apply modifications. |
||
Modify Execution | Available for Period containers (C_PERIOD tasks) | ||
Modify Parent Properties | Allows you to change the maximum number of parallel tasks allowed for the task or to suspend task processing. | ||
Modify Priority |
Opens the dialog where you can change the priority of the task. This option is available for tasks with a status between 1500 and 1799 (see System Return Codes of Executable Objects). |
||
Modify Properties |
Available for Job Groups and Agent Groups. It opens a dialog where you can modify the maximum number of parallel tasks allowed for the task or to suspend task processing. |
||
Modify Status Manually |
Allows you to change the status of a task. This option is available only if your user definitions has the necessary rights. |
Modifying the Status of a Task Manually | |
Modify Task | Allows you to change parameters of tasks that have been started with the Execute once option (not Immediately) | ||
Open Agent Group Monitor |
Available for tasks that are being processed by an Agent Group. It opens the list of tasks that are processed by the Agent Group. |
||
Open Monitor |
Opens the monitor of the selected task in a new page. Available only for running tasks that have a monitor view of their own (for example, workflows, schedules, groups, etc.). The monitor provides information on the progress of the task and functions to modify the current execution. |
||
Open Parent Monitor | Opens the monitor of the task's parent object. It provides information on the progress of the task and functions to modify the current execution. | ||
Open Report | Opens the report of the selected execution (RunID) | Reports Overview | |
Open Sync Monitor | Opens the list of tasks affected by one or more Sync objects | Monitoring SYNC Objects | |
Open User Input Dialog |
Opens the dialog where you can enter the values that the task need to complete its processing. |
Entering Data at Runtime | |
Parent Executions |
For tasks with a parent task; it opens the list of past executions of the parent task.
|
Parent Executions | |
Properties |
Opens a pane at the bottom half of the page where you can see and modify the properties of the tasks included in the selected container. These changes are valid only for that particular execution (that is, for the execution with that runID). |
For Workflows: Modifying the Properties of Tasks at Runtime For Schedules: |
|
Quit |
Ends a long-running activity. Only available for long-running, recurring activities. For example, these activities execute a particular process repeatedly within a particular interval (event). They must be manually ended by the user. |
||
Recalculate next start time |
Available for Schedules. Schedules and tasks within Schedules can have calendars assigned to them. If calendars or calendar events are changed in the Schedule or in any of its tasks, you must select this option if you want the monitor to display the next start time according to the new calendar definitions. |
||
Refresh | Loads the current data for the task. | ||
Release Manually |
Before being actually executed, tasks go through the following phases: Activation, Generation and Transfer. See Stages of Job Processing for details on this. If so configured, it may be necessary to modify the generated JCL of jobs before executing them. In these cases, tasks are activated, their scripts are generated and, if applicable, transfers are carried out. The tasks, however, are not executed and their status is Waiting for manual release. You select this option to execute them. |
||
Reload definition at period turnaround |
Available for Schedules. If selected, changes done to the Schedule definition in the Process Assembly perspective will be applied with the next period turnaround. A tick next to this option indicates that this function is activated. |
